With bumpers, you can’t tell how bad the damage is just by looking.
A small scuff can take a couple of days to repair. A rear-end bump that marks the paint could require a full replacement because the bar and absorber behind it took the impact.
At Bemac, we’ll tell you which one you’re dealing with before you spend a single dollar.
Our body shop is approved by all Canadian insurers, CAA-approved, and I-CAR Gold Class – Aluminum certified. Plus, the work is backed by a lifetime warranty honoured across the CSN network.
Our Bumper Replacement Services
Bumper work is the most common repair that comes through our bays, and it’s almost never the same job twice. Here’s what we handle:
Bumper repair
Cracks, scrapes, scuffs, and dents in the cover, repaired and refinished rather than replaced wherever the part will hold up.
Bumper replacement
A new cover, absorber, reinforcement bar, brackets, and clips when the damage goes beyond a safe repair.
Paintless dent repair
When a dent hasn't broken the finish, we reshape it from behind using paintless dent repair, without filler or repaint.
Colour-matched refinishing
Computerized matching to your factory paint code, blended into the panels on either side.
Fender and adjacent panel work
Bumper hits rarely stop at the bumper. We realign what's around it so the gaps read even.
Sensor and ADAS recalibration
When required, we scan and recalibrate parking sensors, cameras, and radar behind the bumper after the repair.
A modern bumper cover is thermoplastic, so we can weld, fill, sand, and refinish it when the damage stops at the surface.
Scrapes from a post, curb scuffs, a crack along a corner, a shopping cart dent: all are still repairable if the mounting points and the structure underneath came through intact.
This means you can repair your vehicle’s factory part, and you’re usually back on the road sooner.
Sometimes, the honest answer is a new bumper.
Once the mounting tabs have snapped, the reinforcement bar is bent, the absorber is crushed, or a sensor housing is broken, that bumper won’t do its job in the next collision, even if it looks fine from far away.
When replacement is recommended, we’ll rebuild the assembly for your make and model, then confirm the fit before painting.
Don’t take every review at face value: a thoughtful, well-written review tells you more than a one-line rant, and even the best shops get the occasional bad day. Positive word-of-mouth from family and friends counts, too.
A bumper only looks repaired if the paint blends naturally with the rest of the car, and that’s harder here than on any other panel.
Plastic takes colour differently than steel, and a three-year-old finish has already shifted since it left the factory. We pull your paint code, mix with PPG waterborne paint, verify the match, then blend into the adjacent panels instead of stopping at the seam.
We match texture too, since covers have a different surface finish than the surrounding metal. We use the same car paint process everywhere else, too.
Working With Your Insurance
Ontario roads keep us busy: the province recorded 26,993 fatal and personal-injury collisions in 2023, and the minor knocks that damage bumpers rarely make that list at all.
We’re a Direct Repair Program facility, approved by every Canadian insurance company, and we handle the claim from our side: documenting the damage, talking to your adjuster, and billing approved repairs directly.
This means you’re not stuck between us and your insurer. And if your insurer suggested a different shop, that’s simply a suggestion. Where your car ultimately gets repaired is your call.
On a minor at-fault bump, plenty of drivers weigh claiming against paying out of pocket, usually because of the deductible and what a claim might do to a renewal. We can’t make that call for you, but we can put a written estimate in your hands first to clarify your decision.
Our Lifetime Warranty
Bumper work carries the same CSN National Lifetime Warranty as anything else we repair, honoured at 270+ CSN locations across Canada for as long as you own the vehicle. Move across Canada, and the coverage moves with you.
Full disclosure: The warranty covers our workmanship and refinishing. Ottawa salts its roads for much of the year, so we can’t promise your vehicle will never rust. No shop in this climate honestly can.
Frequently Asked Questions
Usually it can be repaired. If the damage stops at the cover and the mounting tabs, reinforcement bar, and sensors behind it are intact, we can usually repair and refinish. If the crash structure or a sensor housing took the hit, a replacement is safer.
There’s no flat rate. It depends on the extent of the damage, your vehicle’s parts, and the paint finish, and repairing a cover is a much smaller job than replacing a full assembly with sensors. Ask for a free estimate; if you’re filing a claim, you usually pay only your deductible.
A cover repair and refinish is often a couple of days. A full replacement depends on parts availability, and recalibration or insurer approval adds time. Here’s what actually drives a repair timeline.
That’s exactly what we check. We scan before and after the work, transfer or replace sensors and cameras as needed, and recalibrate when the manufacturer’s procedure calls for it.
We offer flexible parts options, including OEM (original equipment manufacturer) and aftermarket bumpers, and we’ll recommend what suits your vehicle and the repair. Your policy can affect which parts are covered, but we’ll walk you through it before ordering anything.
It depends on your deductible and the size of the repair. If the estimate lands close to or below your deductible, a claim may not be worth filing. Your insurer or broker can tell you how one would affect your renewal.
Yes. We work from your factory paint code, verify the match before application, and blend into the neighbouring panels so the repair doesn’t stop at a hard line. We match texture as well, not just colour.
A light scuff is fine. A cover that’s hanging loose, sitting crooked, or touching a tire isn’t, and neither is damage that’s exposed the structure or a sensor. If the bumper was pushed inward, get it looked at before driving much further.
Customer Reviews
Don’t just take our word for it! Here’s what Ottawa drivers say after an auto body repair with Bemac. You can read more on our reviews page.
Monica Leonhardt
“My front bumper came partially detached and I reached out to Turpin-Capital Collision based on reviews, and prior experience from decades ago. The staff was friendly. The inspection was quick and they were able to reattach my bumper while I stood and watched. It took me longer to drive over than it took for the work to be completed. Awesome! Thanks so much!”
Mélanie Gervais
“I had my car repaired through my insurance company and was sent to CSN Bemac Embrun to replace my front bumper, and fog light, after a hit and run. I received excellent customer service and my car was repaired quickly and perfectly! Steve was very friendly and knowledgeable in answering all my questions. When I picked up my car, I was very happy to discover that my entire car not only had been repaired, but it had also been completely cleaned and detailed on the inside. I’ve never had that experience with any repair shop! It felt like I was in a new car and was such a wonderful surprise and so appreciated! I would highly recommend CSN Bemac Embrun for your vehicle repairs and will definitely be using them again if needed!”

“Visiting Ottawa for a funeral, had an issue with my bumper along the way. Very anxious about driving back, with just tape and hoping for the best. Found Bemac online, went over. Staff were super friendly and helpful and fixed it so I could travel back home, safely and on time. Highly recommend!”

Bumper Repair or Replacement: Which Do You Need?
Some shops default to replacing because it’s simpler to quote. Others repair everything because it’s easier to convince the customer.
At Bemac, we’ll look at the part, then tell you what we found, so you have the final say on what works best for your situation.
Bumper repair is possible when:
- The damage is limited to the cover: scrapes, scuffs, surface cracks, small dents, or faded and chipped paint
- The mounting tabs and clips are intact, and the cover still sits properly against the fenders
- The reinforcement bar and energy absorber behind the cover are undamaged
- No sensors or camera housings were hit
Bumper replacement is the safer call when:
- Mounting hooks or tabs have broken, so the cover can’t be secured at factory tolerances
- The reinforcement bar is bent, or the absorber is crushed, which means the crash structure won’t perform the way it was designed to
- A sensor or camera housing is cracked, or its mounting angle has shifted
- The cover is torn across a large area, or cracked in several places at once
We tie this to safety rather than cost because your bumper isn’t just trim. It’s an engineered assembly that handles the first part of an impact, which is also why rear-end collisions do so much damage beyond the panel you can see.
Then there’s what’s inside your bumper: parking sensors, backup and surround cameras, and the radar behind the front fascia may need recalibration before they aim where the manufacturer intended.
Having this done right is essential; according to research from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Transport Canada, automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning cut police-reported rear-end crashes by 27% to 50%.
If those systems are even slightly off, they may not protect you the way they were designed to
At Bemac, we hold the I-CAR Gold Class Aluminum designation and 15+ manufacturer certifications; this means we follow the published OEM procedure for your vehicle.
We scan your vehicle at intake and at completion, and we perform ADAS calibration when the repair calls for it. Bumper jobs run through the same 24-point collision process we use for structural work.
